The most exciting and diverse side of Music in Aquinas is undoubtedly the opportunities that we offer our students outside the classroom! Currently we run ensembles every lunchtime, on some days several occur simultaneously, and all we ask for is genuine enthusiasm for making music and committment to attending regular rehearsals. Outlined below is our current weekly schedule:

  • Monday: Junior [Mrs McWilliams] and Senior [Ms Gould] Choirs. Each choir has almost 60 members.
  • Tuesday: 33-strong Chamber Choir which is by invitation/audition only [KMW and JG], Guitar [Mr Denham] and Ukelele ensembles [Jimmy Donaghy].
  • Wednesday: Jazz Band [Mr Forshaw] and Senior String Ensemble [Mr Surginor].
  • Thursday: Orchestra [KMW and JG] with 85+ members grade 3 upwards.
  • Friday: Trad Group [Anthony Bergin] and Folk Group [Maria Furey and Ciara Power].

We really encourage the students themselves to lead and direct some of these activities which they really enjoy. All activities create a great feeling of camaraderie and positivity, with the younger musicians striving to emulate the achievements of the older and more experienced students. Our high points, where we get the chance to display our hard work, are most definitely our annual Carol Service [Dec 13th 2010], Spring Concert [April 7th 2011] and Musical Production [October 2011]. We look forward to seeing you there!
