District 'A' and Ulster Schools Cross Country Championships
The District ‘A’ championships took place on Tuesday 4 February at the Billy Neill Playing Fields Comber. It should have been held the previous week on Thursday 30 January at Tollymore Forest Park but had to be postponed and the venue moved due to damage caused by Storm Éowyn.
Aquinas brought a strong squad of 18 runners, 7 Year 8 girls, one Year 8 boy, 3 Year 9 girls, one Year 9 boy, one Year 10 girl, one Year 10 boy, 3 Year 11 boys and one Year 13 girl.
The Mini Girls were our largest team. Natasha, Grace, Sophie, Suzannah, Enya, Clodagh and Francesca ran 1600m. Natasha qualified for the Ulsters on 18 February, as well as Cillian, our Mini Boy, who came second in his race.
The Minor Girls were Georgina, Ellen and Caitlin. They also ran 1600m. Georgina won the race and Ellen came 10th, meaning they both qualified for Ulsters. Our Minor Boy was Tom and he had to run 2300m.
Our Junior Girl, Katie, ran 2300m coming 4th and qualified for the Ulsters. Leo, our Junior Boy ran 3200m.
Inter Boys Daniel, Saishrihan and Joseph ran 4800m.
Emily our Senior Girl ran 2600m.
The Ulsters were held on Wednesday 19 February at The City of Belfast Playing Fields Mallusk and Georgina, Katie and Rory all qualified for the All-Ireland Championship in Galway on Saturday 8 March.
