On Thursday the 25th of January, Aquinas Cross Country Club brought a large squad of twenty runners to Delamont Country Park, Killyleagh for the District ‘A’ Schools Cross Country Championships 2024. The weather mostly stayed dry for us, but it was extremely muddy under foot.

We had a strong showing in seven out of the total ten age categories. On the day we had eight Year 8 Mini girls and boys on their first run for Aquinas. There were six girls, Sarah, Clara, Ellen, Georgina, Caitlin and Cara. The two boys were Caine and Henry. There were five year 9 Minor Girls Katie, Hannah, Orla, Katherine and Cara. The year 10 Junior Boys were Rory and James. Year 11&12 Inter Boys Nathan and Euan and Inter Girls Emily and Sophia. We had one Senior Boy Daniel.

We had some great results and four of our runners have qualified for the Ulster Schools Championships at the City of Belfast Playing Fields, Mallusk.

Both girls and boys Minis had to run 1500 metres. Georgina came 4th in her race with a time of 5:54 minutes.

Minor girls run 1700 metres. Katie came 7th, her time was 5:45 minutes and Hannah was 9th in 05:48 minutes.

Rory came first in the Junior Boys race, running a distance of 2500 metres in a time of 10:59 minutes and James just missed out on qualification coming 16th in 12:31 minutes.

Congratulations to them all!
