Congratulations to 2016 past pupil, John Tinneny, winner of Stephen Spender U-18 poetry translation prize for his highly acclaimed translation of Nuala Ni Dhomhnail ‘s Peirseifine, from the Irish language, into his own English translation: ‘Persephone’.

Earlier this month, John attended a salubrious award ceremony in London, accompanied by his parents, and received his prestigious prize-given in association with The Guardian. John also gave a reading from his translation to the gathered assembly of literati! MPT magazine considered The Stephen Spender awards as yielding ‘exciting new discoveries’, of course John’s poetic translation as one of these.

John, who studied English, Irish and French for A Level at Aquinas, is currently in First Year, University of Glasgow where he is studying a degree in English and French.

Aquinas would like to add its proud congratulations to John for such an achievement and we know we will be hearing more about this talented writer in the future!
