Aquinas competed in the Co Down Cross Country Championships. The conditions were difficult underfoot due to the inclement weather conditions prior to the event. The races started with Mini Girls. Aquinas’ team consisted of Aine Donaghy, Iseult Fahy,Maria Mc Kenna and Caitlin Moreland. The girls ran well finishing 9th overall. A special congratulations to Iseult who finished 13th. She know competes in the Ulster Championships at Mallusk Playing Fields.

Not to be out done the Mini Boys went one step further and finished 5th overall. Year 8 runners were Fergus McGrady, Conor Dornan, Shay O’Neill, Ronan Cahalane, Donal Hanna and Matthew Mawhinney. This is a great performance as they were competing against 180 runners.

Poppy McGonigle, Olivia Morrow, Ellen Cross and Fionn Nagle competed in the Minor Races finishing in the top 30 runners.

Our Junior Boys had a difficult race as they were the last race of the day. Frank Mc Williams and James Gracey both ran well.

Katie O’Hare and Niamh Cunningham represented Aquinas in the Senior Girls. Luke Devlin, running in the Senior Boys race was very unfortunate not to qualify for the Ulsters. He was in 4th for most of the race. He sustained an injury in the latter half of the course and was unable to finish.

Peter Gracey stepped up to the line for the Intermediate Boys race. To date Peter has had an amazing season. He did not disappoint. He finished 2nd in Co Down. He now represents Aquinas in the Ulsters.

We wish Iseult and Peter well in their races in the Ulster Championships on Wednesday 10th February.
