Aquinas Past Pupil leads campaign for Irish Language Rights
Aquinas Past Pupil and Irish language campaigner Caoimhe Mhic Fhearghuis (neé Cahill) was to the fore in organising An Lá Dearg (The Red Day) in Belfast last month, when 10,000 Irish speakers and supporters marched from An Chultúrlann on the Falls Road to Custom House Square in the City Centre. The Belfast march was organised following the success of a similar march in Dublin in February, to campaign for rights and equality for Irish speakers and to ask the N.I. Assembly to develop Irish Medium Education and implement an Irish Language Act.
Caoimhe who graduated in Irish at the University of Ulster Coleraine currently works as an Irish Language Development Officer in South Down, where she was successfully involved in establishing funding for an Irish-Medium Primary School outside Annalong.
