Queen’s University Debating Society Competition
Congratulations Ciaran Foster and Eamonn Rea, Year 14 students who formed Aquinas’ first team for Queen’s University Debating Society Competition for Schools.
The University’s oldest society, known as Literific, held a debating competition for the first time to schools in Northern Ireland, at the end of February, with the motion ‘This House would change the channel on Reality TV .’ Team Aquinas had to oppose the motion over the course of two rounds.
The boys came up against tough proposition in the form of Rathmore Grammar School, Ballymena Academy,(overall winning school) St. Louis’ Grammar School and Methodist College. With Ciaran and Eamonn having to perform a six minute speech each, in the two rounds, the pressure was tough. However, the boys worked brilliantly as a team and became masters of refutation with Eamonn winning Best Individual Speaker.
Well done boys!
