Tag Rugby Success
The New Year has seen the start of after school training for Girls Tag rugby. The squad is made up of around 45 girls from year 11–14 who have been fully committed despite the weather.
Tuesday 4th February was the Belfast Regional Qualifier at Wellington College for the Girls Schools Cup. It was attended by 10 schools from across the city and Aquinas was represented by three teams, placed in two pools.
Aquinas A met Victoria, Hazelwood and Knockbreda, with Aquinas B and C in a pool with the hosts Wellington College and Hunterhouse. Aquinas A came top of their pool despite a close loss against Hazelwood and now progress to the next round of matches after mid term.
The most contested game of the day came at the end of Pool A when Aquinas A and B met. Friendships were put to the side for a very competitive 15 minutes. Both coaches Ms Guiney and Mr McCleave have since claimed victory, however, independent reports give Mr McCleave a slender win.
The girls enthusiasm and enjoyment during the day was clear and the experience gained should be invaluable for the future. Well done to all and many thanks to Zoe Templeton from Ulster Rugby for the very successful event.
