Leonita Flynn Pays Poetic Visit to Aquinas.
On Thursday, January 16, The English Department and students met with Leonita Flynn in our school library for a reading and discussion of her works.
Leonita who has three volumes of poetry published by Cape, shot to poetic acclaim after winning The Gregory Prize for best poets under the age of 30 several years ago. To the Aquinas audience she read a mixture of pieces and explained the writing process for each one as well as giving an account of her career to date.
There was a lively question and answer session between audience and speaker which enhanced the experience for all there.
We were very lucky to have Leonita in our midst. It is difficult to dispute Heaney’s endorsement of her as ‘the real thing.’
