At the end of May, myself and Ms Farrelly had the pleasure of taking 26 pupils to Waterstones Bookshop to hear new author DJ Mc Cune tell us about her first book “Death and Co” . Newly published in May, we first heard about it at the NIBA Finale Event in Bangor Grammar School.  Since we all liked the sound of it we decided to make it our May bookclub read.

It tells the story of teenager, Adam, a reluctant “Luman” who along with all his family, is charged with the secret responsibility of guiding people who have just died, through the “Hinterland ” and into the light. It may sound gloomy but it is actually very life affirming and with a plot full of twists and turns, it has proved to be one of the most popular books we have read this year in bookclub.

The author DJ Mc Cune  was not only very entertaining but she also gave our pupils lots of tips and encouragement in their own writing and of course encouraged them to keep reading !
