National Poetry Day, 2012

The theme for National Poetry Day, 2012 was ‘Stars’ and Aquinas was delighted to celebrate it with a variety of activities and presentations; these included:

 

a Poetry Reading by our Principal, Mr Barry Kelly;

Readings by Seámus Fox (local poet);

Dramatisation of poems by Staff;

Lectures on Stars by Ms Joanne Connolly and Mr Steven Sames;

‘The Transcendental Effect of Poetry’: a specially-designed star-themed-based venue for Break and Lunch-time;

a talk on ‘Why to write Poetry?’ by Ms Marie McCool;

Year 14 Drama class’s Dramatisation of a star poem;

Haiku and Limericks workshops;

Year Thirteen Choral Performance of ‘No Second Troy’;

Senior School Lunch-time ‘Open Mic’ poetry readings in the Library;

Star-based music (compiled by Mr Mc Auley);

Students’ and Staff’s star-theme-based poems;

Students’ and Staff’s public readings of their original poetry.

 

The Staff Poetry-writing competition was won jointly by Ms Marie Mc Cool and Ms Joanne Connolly; well done!! You are both stars! 🙂
