Aquinas Celebrates International Week of Languages
Aquinas celebrated European Week of Languages with a variety of events and activities. Year 13 language pupils had a very rewarding experience when they went out to our local primary schools to teach some language lessons in French, Hindi, Irish and Spanish. We are delighted to work with St. Bernard’s, St Bride’s, Holy Rosary, St Ita’s, St Joseph’s, St Malachy’s, St Matthew’s and St Michael’s. The primary pupils got a chance to enjoy learning a new language and our Year 13s got to take on the role of the language teacher for a morning.
The Year 14 Spanish pupils attended a workshop in Stormont which was run by the Education Service and bilingual MLA, Conall McDevitt along with our colleague Paloma Rivas. Click here for more information.
The Irish Department hosted pupils and teachers from Scoil An Droichid who enjoyed a variety of activities including French and Spanish lessons. A language and culture workshop took place in the Learning Resource Centre where pupils got to share their languages and cultures and the rich diversity of the school community was very much evident with French, Indian culture, Irish, Italian, Polish, Spanish and Tamil represented.
Our Key Stage 3 pupils enjoyed a film day where the Year 8s saw the Irish Short Film “Yu Ming Is Ainm Dom” , Year 9s watched the beautiful “Les Choristes” in French and Year 10s watched ” El Laberinto del Fauno” from Spain.
