Wednesday 19th September, 2012 saw GCSE students taking part in a fantastic acting workshop, provided by The Lyric Theatre Belfast. The year 12 class, who had visited the Lyric Theatre recently to see ‘Playboy of western world’, were lucky enough to welcome into Aquinas, three of the actresses from the show.
The workshop included a movement warm-up which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone and got us all up and moving in very different ways than we were used to. We then went through a full vocal warm-up, learning new techniques to prepare our voices for the stage. Finally the young people involved divided into groups to work on a scene from the play, with special attention given to working on a convincing Co. Mayo accent, at which they all excelled!
The young people involved really threw themselves into the exercises and impressed our professional visitors. The workshop provided a brilliant opportunity for the GCSE pupils to gain an invaluable insight into the professional world of the theatre and ask the professionals questions and seek some very helpful tips and advice for the future and we hope to welcome them back very soon.
