The Year 9 Geography students visited the Glens of Antrim on Monday and Tuesday this week. Their aim was to study features of theAntrimCoast, examine how river particles change downstream from its source and enjoy the beauty of the Glens.

Classes 9S and 9M carried out their fieldwork on Monday and classes 9C and 9J went on Tuesday. The coastal tour started in Carnlough and continued up to Garron Point, then to Cushendall, finally stopping in Cushendun. Students visited the caves, stacks and arches of the cliffs at Cushendun known locally as the “Pudding Stones” and also measured stone size and shape on the nearby River Dun.

The buses then brought the group to Glenariffe Forest Park where the children enjoyed lunch and the fresh air and sunshine of a beautiful May day.

The final task was to walk down to The Laragh Lodge, past the magnificent waterfalls of Glenariffe to our second and final river stop. The classes once again measured stone size and shape. The pupils will enter their data into the Excel spreadsheet to examine the differences between the two stops and write-up their results. This write-up will help toward assessing the Cross Curricular Skill of Using ICT in Year 9. Both teachers and pupils found the days very enjoyable.
