A successful Young Enterprise company needs to generate lots of ideas to create products and solve problems.  Good teams generate more ideas, so it follows that the success of each company will be closely linked with how well achievers work together and how innovative they are –  it’s not just about what they produce, it’s about how they run the company.

In September, twenty year 13 students became directors of this year’s company – ‘Kaizen’ (which is Japanese for Continuous Improvement) – co-ordinated a strategy which enabled us to compile our final portfolio of products:

  • We created new mobile phone charger holders – These were designed and manufactured in house by Kaizen (with the help and guidance of the Technology & Design staff)
  • Our seasonal product was Snow/Ice Grips to help prevent any falls when walking in icy conditions.
  • We also imported this year’s hot craze – handbag hooks, which have become one of our biggest sellers.

Our slogan is “Everyday Solutions to Everyday Problems” and this proved very successful at the Young Enterprise Trade Fair in Ballymena on 2nd December, where we were delighted to win the ‘Best Product’ and ‘Most Innovative Product’ awards for our mobile phone charger holders.

We sold many products and achieved excellent feedback from both our customers and a wide range of judges on the day.  Overall we had a fantastic time and exceeded all our expectations.  We now look forward to our next public selling opportunity in Connswater Shopping Centre in February.  We would like to thank our Business Advisers, Derek Anderson & Eamonn Foster and our Link Teacher, Mrs McKenna for their continuing support and guidance.

Grateful thanks also go to Montupet (UK) Ltd for their sponsorship of our company.
