The Year 9 soccer team defeated Wellington College 3-1 in a tense cup tie that was much tighter than the scoreline suggests.

Wellington took the lead early on and played some good football during the first half. Aquinas were fortunate enough to go in 1-1 at half-time after Eoin Nagle was able to scramble the ball over the line from a corner.

The second half was extremely tight with Jack McAufield having a superb game in goals. Eventually Aquinas got the breakthrough – with seven minutes remaining Louis Campbell lobbed a terrific shot over the goalkeeper to make it 2-1 and in the dying minutes, Louis Campbell chased down a hopeless cause to rob the Wellington full-back and get the ball into the middle where Lorcan Fahy was able to put the game beyond doubt with a header on the rebound after another scramble in the box.

The team worked extremely hard with Louis Campbell unanimously getting the man of the match award.
