The U16 basketball team returned home from Corkon Friday with a 55-24 victory overPatricianCollege, Mallow.

The home team started off brightly scoring on their first three offences while Aquinas struggled with the vociferous home crowd.  However, Alex McConaghy settled the visitors’ nerves with two quick baskets.  The Mallow school seemed to be able to convert on every offence and at the end of the first quarter led 14-10.

However, Aquinas turned the heat up on defence in the second quarter and held the home team scoreless to go in leading 25-14 at half time.

Some great play by Ronan Quinn during the second half allowed Aquinas to run their bench and give all 11 players well-deserved court time.

Aquinas now face Palmerstown Community College in the second round.  TheDublin school won the U19 & U16 League & Cup last year and are clear favourites to retain the Cup again.
