Silver Award final expedition
During April, forty-one of our year twelve pupils successfully completed their qualifying expedition for their Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award. This was the culmination of fifteen months of preparation, during which the young people learnt navigation skills, camp-craft, risk-assessment, cooking skills, teamwork and first-aid, to complete the thirty kilometre trek in the Mourne mountains. While the weather was good, the route was very tough. However, each team met the challenge and worked exceptionally well to complete the expedition successfully and some even mnaged to squeeze in revision for their GCSE examinations at the campsites!
