AS/A2 History Trips to Somme Heritage Centre
On Tuesday 1 March 22 Year 14 pupils travelled with Ms U. Dillon to Newtownards for a series of lectures and workshops about “The Partition of Ireland” delivered by the well-respected Irish historian, Dr. Russell Rees. The topics covered included:
- The Home Rule Crisis of 1912-1914
- The Impact of World War One and the Easter Rising
- The Rise of Sinn Fein
The lectures and workshops were extremely informative and beneficial. All involved had a productive and enjoyable day as the photograph shows.
On Friday 4 March, 25 Year 13 pupils accompanied by Mr P. Quinn also went to the Somme Heritage Centre for an equally worthwhile day of lectures centred on “Challenge and Crisis in Ireland”. These focused on Daniel O’Connell and the Famine.
