Aims of the Irish Department

The Irish Department promotes the general aims of the school in encouraging pupils in their pursuit of all aspects of spiritual, educational and personal excellence. We promote Irish as a living language and foster links with other Irish speakers. We aim to provide our students with many opportunities to extend their learning experiences beyond the classroom. Our pupils attend courses, go on educational visits, take part in competitions and attend cultural events. To prepare pupils for adult and working life we help them acquire transferable skills and foster good communication skills. We offer insights into and encourage an appreciation of Irish culture and literature. Our main aim is to promote the learning of Irish as an enjoyable experience and foster a love of and enthusiasm for the language which will remain throughout life.
