Golf 2016

After a hard fought victory over Our Lady and St. Patrick’s Knock, the Darren Clarke School Golf League squad have finally qualified for the knock-out stages. This is the first time in the relatively short history of competitive golf in the school that the school has been able to top their group. Wins over St. Malachy’s, OLSPK and Rockport means Aquinas have progressed to face St. Patrick’s Dungannon on Friday 13th May at Lisburn. Credit must go to all of the nine golfers who played over the four games. Each squad member showed impressive enthusiasm and the extra practice despite the difficult spring weather conditions definitely paid off. Special mention though is reserved for Frank McWilliams who won all of his matches and also Matthew Egan and Conor Curran who earned 3 points apiece.

With the introduction of the Autumn League for the first time this year, the availability of lessons for beginners at Shandon Park Golf Club and the annual Junior Championship still to come, golf is thriving at Aquinas. Success on Friday will allow an already brilliant season to extend even further. Fingers crossed!!
